Family Counseling

Family counseling is favorable to aid clients on an array of issues. This could include behavioral problems, seeking support for illnesses, new family members (step-parents, new baby in home, etc.), death of a loved one, and adoption/fostering, as any and all families are inimitable. As with any form of counseling, the session is tailored to meet the needs of the family as a whole. Viewing a family from a systemic approach can be advantageous with identifying barriers, bonds, triangulation, healthy vs. unhealthy boundaries, improve communication, and assist in resolving conflicts.

Individual Counseling

Individual therapy is very beneficial to the healing process. Whether you are a youth, adolescent, adult, married, part of a family—sometimes seeing someone on your own is beneficial to your wellbeing and health. Individual counseling allows you to meet with an individual that has no personal connection, judgement and practices genuineness. Individual counseling also allows the treatment to be directly related to you, and creates a unique experience. No two individuals are the same, and therefore this form of therapy is tailored to meet your needs.

Child and Adolescent Counseling

Child and Adolescent counseling is not unlike individual counseling. The main differences are that there is a unique relationship built with the client and parent. To assist youth with opening up during sessions, the clinician may ask that the parent sign a consent form in which they agree to not ask about the session, so that the youth is more comfortable talking. In the same respect, the parent and youth acknowledge that one of the factors that negate this contract is if the therapist believes that the youth is in danger. With child and adolescent counseling, often different activities are applied to the therapy session to allow for self-expression. This can include sand tray, play and art activities; however this depends on the individual and assuring that the clinician meets the youth where they are at.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.
